Neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Nuceiva) are used to relax facial muscles. They are all made of Botulinum toxin, in slightly different formulations. When injected in small amounts to the facial muscles it reduces muscle contraction, thereby relaxing the appearance of the overlying skin and reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Depending on the muscle injected it can also result in elevation or depression of certain facial features. Neuromodulators are a safe treatment approved by both Health Canada and the FDA, and are one of the most popular and requested aesthetic treatments.

     Multiple locations in the face and neck may be injected to address patient's treatment goals, these include:

• Forehead lines

• Glabella or "11s"; the frown lines between the eyebrows 

• Brows - creates a brow lift 

• Crow's feet

• “Bunny lines” on the nose

• Jawline - lifts/slims and when injected in the masseters will also reduce tooth grinding and jaw pain

• Upper lip area - creates a 'lip flip' to enhance volume

• Vertical lip lines (smoker’s lines) around the mouth

• Chin to reduce dimpling and lifting 

• Platysma; smoothing and lifting the neck 

 

     Injectables typically lasts 3-4 months. Onset of action usually takes anywhere from 2-7 days, with maximal effect noticed by 2 weeks. Due to this timeframe we recommend a follow-up appointment at 2 weeks to review the results and to address if any 'tweaks' are required.
